When I started my business 7 years ago, I was in a total hustle mentality where all I wanted to do was to get to six figures fast. That was my money goal, of course, I had goals to help people. I started the business, living in NYC, I grew to six figures really fast, the reason I was able to do that was because I had a hustle mentality. I hustled my hiney off, literally. I would go to networking meetings as early as 6:30 am before they started, and I would meet as many people as I could before 9:00 am. I was constantly networking, following up, and many of these people I met ended up buying my coaching services.
This was before zoom, and all these companies now with screen shares. Ultimately, I was running all over the city to coach people. At the end of the day, I was so exhausted. I was like the energizer bunny all day with my brain helping people and then I came home, sent follow up notes, and I would be exhausted all to do it again the following day. I was able to build a six-figure business fast, but it was not the business I had always dreamed of.

I don’t know where you’re at in your journey, but I want you to pause for a second, and rather than continuing to go through your same daily routines, ask yourself these questions. Are you happy with where you’re at in your journey? Is this what you want to be doing every single day? Are you building the kind of business you have always dreamt of? It’s always a blessing in disguise about what’s going on in our world. For the last few months, you have been able to take a step back and be put out of your routine. It’s made most people analyze whether they’re aligned with their current business strategy and whether they’re on the right track or not.
This hustle mentality and culture, it doesn’t have to be that way. There are successful people all over the world who have realized you don’t have to hustle. Yesterday, my husband and I were recording for our Sell or Die Podcast, and he came up with a concept called relaxed productivity. We’re at the beach, relaxed, with few things on our calendars that are prioritized. We have very little on our plates and it allows the creativity to explode within us. When you’re not hustling all the time, you can pull back a little bit, and be more creative. It allows you to see things you normally miss because you’re just going through motions and routines.

My challenge to you is to ask yourself, do you want the hustle kind of business or the relaxed productivity kind of business? Some people love the hustle, they thrive off hustle. I thought I did, but I realized if I take 30 minutes to go take a walk or have a bath, all of a sudden my brain is exploding with ideas. So try going for a bike ride, meditate, yoga, anything to relax you for a small part of your day. All of a sudden you may realize your brain is overflowing with ideas.
When you wake up in the morning, determine what you need to start your day that way you can have a relaxed productive approach. Most of you probably are seeking this relaxed mindset for business. Most people out there don’t want to hustle and grind all the time, most people get into entrepreneurship so they can have relaxed productivity without working 40 hours a week. Maybe you only need to work 30 hours a week to be successful, or even 15 hours a week. You can determine what activities and revenue-generating tasks you need to do, and what other tasks you can train for others to take on.
So here’s your breakthrough game plan: Figure out where do you need to be and what does it look like for you to let go of the hustle mentality and take on relaxed productivity? Determine what that space looks like for you, not just physical, but the actual space on your calendar. Allow yourself to have that buffer of time in your daily routine.
